Child Death Data Collection under "Working Together"

Summary

CMACE offers data collection and analysis support to LSCBs to assist them to meet the child death data collection responsibilities mandated by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF).  If offering data collection and analysis services for child death reporting, CMACE draws on its experience over many years in conducting mortality surveillance at a national level.

Neonatal deaths services (less than 28 days)

  • Receive notification of deaths
  • Collect core data as mandated by DCSF
  • Provide copies of data forms prior to CDOP meetings
  • Enter data into web-based, secure database designed by CMACE
  • Produce periodic reports of number of deaths and completion of data forms
  • Annual report of neonatal data including rates, socio-demographic analysis, and comparison to other LSCBs

Child deaths services (older than 28 days)

  • Receive notification of deaths (DCSF form A)
  • Collect core data (DCSF form B and forms B2-B11)
  • Provide copies of the data forms prior to CDOP meetings
  • Enter data onto a web-based, secure database designed by CEMACH
  • Produce periodic reports of number of deaths and completion of data forms
  • Detailed annual report on all deaths including data from forms A and B and CDOP decisions on preventability

As a result of these services, you can expect to receive:

  • Protocol for data collection, analysis, and reporting system
  • Professionally formatted data collection forms (including CMACE logo and your LSCB logo)
  • Completed forms for individual infants and children
  • Data will be entered into a web-based database that meets all data security and information governance requirements
  • Periodic and annual reports

In addition, we are currently developing an interactive web-based database, which would allow you to enter your own data and view an ongoing summary of data for your LSCB.
