Reproductive Health Programme

The Reproductive Health Programme (RHP) within NHS Quality Improvement Scotland exists to encourage and promote good practice within reproductive health in Scotland by:

• Gathering information on practice and outcomes in reproductive health in Scotland
• Analysing and disseminating this information through reports, publications and presentations
• Monitoring changes in practice and outcomes which may result from RHP or other work
• Liasing with other Scottish and UK bodies on matters or common interest, in particular with the Centre for Maternal and Child Health
• Encouraging audit in reproductive health throughout Scotland
• Organising meetings to foster and disseminate the work of the RHP, in particular and annual Reproductive Health Forum

Current activities include the following

• Confidential enquiry into Maternal Health - NHS Quaity Improvement Scotland RHP coordinates the assessment of maternal deaths in Scotland and oversees the Scottish contribution to UK enquiry. 

• Scottish Confidential Audit of Severe Maternal Morbidity (SCASMM) - The 2007 report, including an overview of the 5 years to date of the audit is available at: www.nhshealthquality.org/nhsqis/files/SCASMM_ANNREP2007_MAY09.pdf 

• Scottish Perinatal and Infant Mortality and Morbidity Report (SPIMMR) - Produce annually in collaboration with NHS Scotland Information Services Division. The 2007 report is available on the ISD website http://www.isdscotland.org/isd/3109.html 

• Trends in Perinatal Mortality in Scotland - a review over 30 years: A recently completed one-off report available at http://www.isdscotland.org/isd/3109.html 

• Sudden Unexpected Death in Infancy (SUDI) - This recently established project aims to improve information, coordination and support mechanisms in the event of a SUDI. 

• Amniocentesis and CVS in Scotland - An audit of techniques and outcomes. Due to report at end of 2009.
