Obstetrics Clinical Advisor - CMACE Central Office, Baker Street

Salary range: Attractive negotiable package

CMACE is looking for an obstetrics expert advisor to the clinical team.  Excellent professional skills and understanding of research methodologies, combined with political sensitivity, will be required.  Initial appointment will be 6-9 months, with extension to three years depending on the outcome of current national enquiry tendering.  The role is based on a minimum commitment of 1 day a week.

Key responsibilities include:

1) Clinical input to Maternal Death Enquiry

  • Triage of anonymised clinical material following assessment by regional assessors
  • Allocation of clinical material to external assessors and relevant chapter lead
  • Maintain knowledge and clinical overview of related databases held by CMACE and other relevant bodies
  • Scrutinise, validate and, where appropriate, challenge recorded clinical information relating to maternal deaths
  • Develop guidance and standards for regional assessors and their teams
  • Clinical input to writing panels and development of recommendations
  • Ensure engagement of obstetrics and primary care medical workforce with MDE process and recommendations

2) Clinical input to maternal and perinatal health projects

  • Lead on the development and delivery of all identified maternal and perinatal health project workstreams
  • Contibute to the topic identification process

3) Contribute clinical expertise to other aspects of CMACE work programme, as relevant and appropriate

  • Contribute to or lead (as appropriate) the publication of peer review publications informed by CMACE workstreams
  • Represent CMACE at national advisory and working groups relevant to maternal and perinatal health (e.g. NICE, RCOG, DH)
  • Engage with national /regional conferences and the interactive workshop programme for dissemination and implementation of CMACE reports and recommendations
  • Develop aducation and CDP resources for primary care and secondary care workforce arising from recommendations
  • Develop further dissemination strategies for key findings

The postholder will be required to sign the CMACE Confidentiality Undertaking and adhere to CMACE Information Security procedures at all times.
