Bristol office

The geographical area covered by the South West & Wessex CMACE Region includes Avon, Cornwall & Isles of Scilly, Devon, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Dorset, Wiltshire, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight with a population of 6.3 million.

There are 40 maternity units ranging from 18 midwifery led community based units to 2 tertiary units in Bristol & Southampton. There are over 65,000 live births per annum.

The South West & Wessex Region enquires into perinatal and childhood deaths. Maternal deaths occuring in South West region should be reported to London office.  There is current work on developing collaboration between the local safeguarding children boards and the CMACE office. The regional office activity is subcontracted to Bristol University. The Bristol office also houses the South West Congenital Anomaly Register (SWCAR).
