Wales

The regional office covers the whole of Wales. There are 7 Local Health Boards within the region.  To see a map of the LHB areas please click here.

Wales has a population of approximately 3 million people and a birth rate of approx 33,000 per year (ONS 2005).

Current work in the regional office includes Maternal and Perinatal surveillance, the Obesity in Pregnancy and Head Injury in Children.

In 2007 Wales piloted the new seminar format of disseminating report findings and held two seminars (one in Wrexham and one in Cardiff) on "Diabetes in Pregnancy - are we providing the best care?"  The Focus of the seminar was to translate the recommendations from the report into practice.  Wales also hosted one of the launches of the Saving Mothers' Lives 2003-2005 report in December with a conference in Cardiff.

As a follow on from the Child Death Review study, Dawn Roberts and Allan Wardhaugh, who were both integral to the study in Wales, have been part of a Working Group in Wales that has been discussing how to take reviews of child deaths in Wales forward. 

The work in Wales is funded by the Welsh Assembly Government.
