The maternal and perinatal national confidential enquiry consists of an integrated programme of ongoing work and enquiry projects. This ongoing work includes National Maternal and Perinatal Mortality Surveillance and the Maternal Death Enquiry. Enquiry projects are selected which take into account the findings of the ongoing projects. This enables important issues arising out of the ongoing work to be investigated in depth. Current projects are Obesity in Pregnancy and Intrapartum Care.
Prioritising and Topic Selection for maternal and perinatal enquiry projects is carried out by the major stakeholders in the programme.
